It’s Finally Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Week!

It’s hard to believe that the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Week is upon us. I less than a week, I’ll be running in the Inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon! I’ve been on a taper week, this past week. What a week it was! Like usual, Monday was a rest day. I had another fun rehearsal with the Disney Employee Choir for the Disneyland Candlelight Processional. That, too, is getting oh so close. As a matter of fact, the day after the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon is my favorite rehearsal of the year for Candlelight…the combined rehearsal. For most of the rehearsals, the Disney Cast Choir is divided. There are rehearsals at the Disneyland Resort and other rehearsals up in Glendale for those of us who work close to the Walt Disney Studios. However, for one practice, we are one choir. It’s so much fun! This past Monday and tonight will be for the studio folks.

On Tuesday, I got in 3 more miles before work. As you can see, the time change means that I get to run in the daylight again! That means it will be quite some time before I’m running before the sun comes up on a training run.

My streak of sub 35 minute, 3 mile runs before work came to an end on Tuesday. That’s alright. My legs were feeling a little tight for most of the first mile which slowed me down a little bit. I still kept the run to below a 12 minute per mile pace, though. It was a little chilly out, so I went with my 2014 Walt Disney World 10K shirt. After so many training runs over the summer in the heat, I’m really enjoying the cooler temps.

Wednesday was another rest day for me. There’s nothing of note to report for Wednesday.

Thursday, I was out again to run before work. I was a little faster than Tuesday, finishing just over 35 minutes. I was tired and really didn’t want to get out of bed to run, but I did it anyways and am so glad that I did! It was a little warmer than Tuesday. What hurt my overall finish time was a sluggish 2nd mile and having to cut one of my 1 minute/1 minute run intervals short because I thought I might vomit. Nothing happened and I got back to the 1 minute/1 minute after it. So, I don’t know why I felt that way. But, I was okay after. That lead to a strong finish! One thing I have noticed this week is that my shoes need to be replaced. This run made it official. I could feel the difference.

On Friday, it was a huge day. Now, it wasn’t as dramatic as the above clip, but at around 11:30am, I got the call from HR that I was being offered the Copyright Coordinator position with Disney and I accepted! So, on the day after the Avengers Half Marathon, not only do I have that fun Disney Candlelight rehearsal, but I will be starting my new position! Needless to say, I’m super excited about the promotion and can’t wait to continue my career with the Walt Disney Company!

Earlier on Friday, pictures started springing up over social media from those at the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Expo of the finishers medals for the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland! The above picture came to me via my friend David over at Doom Buggy Runner. Click on the image above for a look at all the medals. The Star Wars 10K is my favorite of the bunch!

As if that wasn’t enough good news, when I arrived home, my new running shoes had arrived! Not a day too soon. I’ve upgraded from the Brooks Ravenna 4′s to the Brooks Ravenna 5‘s. A few weeks ago, I made it to my local running store to try them on. Everything felt fine. Unfortunately, they didn’t have this color. So, I ended up ordering them from Amazon. I’m holding off on a review of the shoe for a couple weeks to give me time to give them a good couple weeks of work.

On Saturday, I took my new shoes out for their first run…a 6 mile run around Pasadena. There was an event going on at the Rose Bowl, so I took to my 6 mile loop. Two weeks ago, I was a little faster than I was this Saturday. It was quite a bit warmer out. The new shoes felt great! The third mile was the difficult mile for me on Saturday. I seriously didn’t feel very good during that mile. However, by the end of it, I came back into focus and made all my intervals for the rest of the way. So, I ended up finishing faster than I thought I was going to finish during that third mile.

Sunday, I missed my gym workout. Honestly, I didn’t feel well all day long. One of my co-workers has been battling a cold all week-long. Hopefully, with taking this day off, I’ll be okay to go on race week. Sometimes, the body tells you to take a break and you should listen. I’m thinking that this was one of those days.

So, it’s finally race week! Time for the Avengers Super Heroes runners to assemble! Are you excited? I know I am! Let’s go Smash the Half!

  1. I can’t believe that Avengers is just days away. I’ll be doing the 5k and half and cannot wait. I have this great Harley Quinn costume with tutu that I cannot wait to wear. I really like the Star Wars medals a lot. I can’t wait to add those to my collection, too!

  2. Avengers is here! I cannot wait to hear about it! I agree with you, the Star Wars 10k is my favorite medal also! I have to thank my running partner for the pictures, she did Wine & Dine while I was running the Savannah Half. I am so excited for you and your new position. Prayer works – and a lot of faithful friends praying! 🙂 Good luck in your new endeavor! I hope it doesn’t interfere with your blogging! 🙂 Have a great week bud!
