Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve been a little under the weather lately. I’m seriously hoping this cold goes away soon! In the mean time, many online have fount the new courses for the 2017 Star Wars Half Marathon and Star Wars 10K races happening at the Disneyland Resort in January. So, I thought I’d post them to give you all a look.
If you’re looking forward to getting this cool medal at the Star Wars 10K, here’s what the new route looks like (and it is new)…
In the previous two years, the Star Wars 10K headed off towards Ball Road. There was this pattern. The Star Wars and Tink races headed towards Ball Road. The Disneyland and Avengers courses headed towards Katella Avenue. I can’t help but wonder if starting off the races heading towards Katella Avenue, but turning into backstage DCA before getting there, is going to be the new norm for runDisney.
For comparison’s sake, here’s what the Star Wars 10K course looked like in 2016. See the difference? I think I’m going to like this route much better. There were too many out and backs in 2016.
For those running either the Rebel Challenge or the Star Wars (Light Side) Half Marathon alone, here is what the half marathon course will look like…
Just like the 10K, the Half Marathon starts off heading towards Katella Avenue. So, the route through the theme parks starts in DCA and then heads to Disneyland. Here’s what the 2016 course looked like…
As you can see, we will likely have just about as much theme park time in 2017 as we had in 2016. It looks like the mile 5 marker will be pretty similar to where it was in 2016 and the rest of the route will be unchanged. Although I have not seen any confirmation yet, I’m pretty sure that we’ll see some Cos Players and members of the 501st Legion at the end of miles 8 and 9 respectively. At least, I’m hoping for a repeat. These miles were where the party was at in the two previous Star Wars Half Marathons.
Come on runDisney, keep the fun going by bringing back the 501st Legion!
In other runDisney news, one week ago, the registration for the 2017 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Opened. Want to know something crazy? None of the races are sold out as of this writing. None of them. The Kids Races, the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Dumbo Double Dare are all still open. When was the last time a first day of registration of a runDisney race did not produce even one sell out? Or go a week without selling out a single race? Y’all, I think runDisney shouldn’t have opened registration so early. As for me, I’ve got to see what God decides. My next race to register for is the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon in late Januray/early February. Since I cancelled my registration for 2016, I have a guaranteed spot in 2017 if I pay the registration fee when the lottery opens. That’s priority number ONE. Then, when I can put together the registration fees for the Dumbo Double Dare, I’ll see if it’s still open. If it is, it will be a sign that I need to run that race. If not, it will mean I need to focus elsewhere. We shall see. However, I’m not entirely surprised that the races are still open as of this writing. However, I am surprised that the 5K and/or Kids Races have not sold out yet.
The Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend event guide, corrals, and waivers should be out this week. When they come out, you know I’ll be posting.
