Planning a runDisney Race-Cation at the Disneyland Resort – Beyond Disneyland

I used this picture to close yesterday’s post and open today’s. Some of you reading this post will not be staying on Disney property for your runDisney Race-Cation or might want to do things off property. So, the above map should provide you with a nice reference with what you can do within walking distance and just a little bit further than walking distance from the Disneyland Resort.

Beyond Disneyland Dining

Denny’s on Harbor Blvd is located right across the street from Disneyland and is open 24 hours. So, if you’re looking for somewhere to eat at odd hours, or maybe before heading off to your starting corral, you should know that they will be open. A big breakfast is not recommended before a race. However, Denny’s does have breakfasts that aren’t as large as well.

Need to find items like bagels, or other breakfast fuel before the race, you might want to consider walking to the corner of Katella Avenue and Harbor Blvd. to 7 Eleven. I can’t guarantee they will be open in the morning before the races. However, it’s close enough to all the hotels, that you could easily buy supplies to bring back to your hotel for the morning.

Looking for a place that’s off property for carbo-loading? Just up Katella Avenue is the Cheesecake Factory. It’s totally within walking distance as part of the Anaheim Garden Walk

Or, you could choose to have that pre-race meal at CPK (the California Pizza Kitchen)…also at the Anaheim Garden Walk just up Katella Avenue. Other potential places to dine at the Anaheim Garden Walk are PF Chang’s and McKormick & Schmick’s.

Just before the Anaheim Garden Walk on Katella Avenue, you’ll come to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Not sure what would qualify as great pre-race food. However, I love the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. They are a super fun place to dine. So, “run Forrest run” to Bubba Gump!

The last place to highlight is Ruth’s Chris Steak House. If you don’t want to celebrate your racing success at the Disneyland Resort, Ruth’s Chris Steak House is a great, upscale, restaurant to celebrate. This restaurant may be a little bit of a walk up Harbor Blvd. So, you may need to be in possession of a vehicle if you want to go there.

Across the street from Disneyland, on Harbor Blvd., are also restaurants like Mimi’s Café, IHOP, and Tony Roma’s that would be fine to dining options. Also, on Harbor Blvd., you’ll find Cold Stone Creamery and Subway for some cheaper options.

Beyond Disneyland – Non-Dining

Did you forget anything you’ll need for the race? Big 5 Sporting Goods might have what you need. I know that there are many options for replacements at the Health Expo at the races. However, sometimes you may not want to deal with the crowds at the Expo. So, if you have a car, just a little bit down Harbor Blvd. between Orangewood Avenue and Chapman Avenue, is Big 5 Sporting Goods.

On the other side of Chapman Avenue on Harbor Blvd., you’ll find the closest Target. I don’t think there needs to be too much explanation as to why I mention Target. Target will have a whole lot that you might have forgotten to pack. It is too far away to walk. So, you’ll want a car if you’re going there.

I know that this post could cover so much more. However, I hope it gives you some idea as to what lies around the Disneyland Resort to give you some other dining options as well as a few other resources. If there’s anything you’d like to find off property that I haven’t listed or isn’t in the map pictured at the top, feel free to ask in the comments section or send me an email at whyirundisney@gmail.com and I’ll do my best to get you an answer.

  1. I’d like to add to that, I found a grocery store that is about a 20 minute walk from DisneyLand, Food 4 Less on Katella and Euclid. It was nice to buy some water, though it was a pain carrying it back. Thanks for the plethora of information. Will be using some of that for my next race-cation.

    1. Thanks for the tip about the grocery store! Food 4 Less is an excellent grocery store and would be an excellent way of saving money for pre-race food!
