Disney Songs on My Playlist

Back before the OC Half Marathon, I wanted to shake up my playlist. So, I went out searching for some new (to the list) songs to add. In the weeks leading up to the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, I noticed postings from some runners on what Disney songs they had. So, I looked through the CD’s I already had and tried out a few songs that have worked out really well for me. I haven’t spotlighted a song on my playlist is a while. So, I thought I’d do that today.

The first song I want to highlight is The Medallion Calls from the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. This song has been my absolute favorite addition. Every single time I’ve run with this song playing, it has given me new life. I love the epic-ness of the track. In the past, I’ve tried to stay away from purely instrumental tracks because I thought I wouldn’t like running without the words. However, while we were running through EPCOT at the finish of the Walt Disney World Marathon, the music playing was equally epic and I absolutely loved it! So, I added this one instrumental track to my playlist and I will have to add more. My advice, though, is to make sure the slow parts of an instrumental track are minimal. What I love about this track is that the slow parts don’t last very long. If they did, I might not like it as much. So, go to You Tube and listen to the entire track of any instrumental track you want to include in your playlist.

Next up is The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room. This song just brings a smile to my face every time it comes up. The tempo stays high enough to not suck the energy out of my run, but is slow enough to give me this feeling of relaxing the pace. It’s a fun song with fun lyrics. Plus, it’s part of a pretty fun attraction at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. So, while run with it, I will sometimes get the mental images of being in the Tiki Room for the show.

Lastly, I’ve added this track from the Main Street Electrical Parade. Tell me that you can’t imagine yourself bopping along on a training run or a race with this track playing in your ears. I have loved this addition to my playlist. So much so that I’ve wondered why I never thought of putting it on my list sooner. It’s fun, light, and brings mental images of watching this fantastic parade both at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. One of the many highlights from my Walt Disney World Marathon Trip was getting to see this parade again. After all, I hadn’t seen the parade since its last summer at Disneyland back in the 1990’s. When I put together my list to run the Disneyland Half Marathon this year, I’ll have to figure out a way to get this song playing when I run up Main Street U.S.A.!

What Disney songs populate your playlists? By the way, I had asked earlier this year for Disney themes suggestions and someone recommended the track to the Osborn Family Dancing Lights from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Does anyone know how I could get the music used for this? I would love to try it out but haven’t been able to locate it.

  1. LOVE to run to Disney music! my favorite is actually Illuminations: reflections of Earth. it always reminds me that rundisney races end in Epcot, my favorite 🙂

and it goes without saying, the entire frozen soundtrack is on my ipod too!

and lately I’ve been listening to Spectromagic and remembering that parade. such good memories!!

    1. I need to get the music from Illuminations to try out one of these days. It’s a fantastic show! The music from Frozen is providing me with some good tunes to run with as well! I’ve never seen Spectromagic. Is that the parade that the Main Street Electrical parade replaces at the Magic Kingdom? I confess that I don’t know much about retired attractions/parades/shows at Walt Disney World like I do at Disneyland.

  2. Go The Distance – Hercules
Under the Sea – Little Mermaid
Almost There – Princess & The Frog
Zip A Dee Do Dah (Aly & AJ Upbeat Version)
    The First Track from Wishes
Grim Grinning Ghosts… I don’t know why but I get that smile every time I hear it!

I think you have added a few to mine as well. I have the Main Street Electrical Parade as my ring tone, never thought about using it in my play list. I love that parade! One of my oldest memories as a kid going to Disney some 40 times ago….

    1. Thanks for the suggestions! I would love to have a playlist for the Disneyland Half Marathon that is almost entirely Disney music. By the way, I have the main Fantasmic music as my ring tone.

      1. Maybe, I’ll just have Disney songs for while I’m in the parks (most of the first 4 miles) and at the finish. My Disneyland Half Marathon playlist still has time to be finished.

      2. That’s right we got 99+ days to polish it out! I think I do have a few others also. I think for the marathon in January I even had the Carousel of Progress, Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow! Just a feel good song!
