Week 5 is in the books and what a week it was! It was hard to write of the failures of week 4. However, I was determined to get back on track in week 5 and I did just that. Although, I wasn’t perfect at my goals, I was pretty close. I’ve been going through The Purpose Driven Life this week and it has been a great time! I did miss out on reading this past Friday. However, I made up the reading on Saturday. In addition to that, I’ve also been reading a chapter a day from the Gospel of John, Proverbs, and Psalms. This week has represented my most consistent time in the Bible in quite some time!
My progress isn’t just represented in spending time with God, but also in getting in the workouts planned. Much like my time in the Bible and The Purpose Driven Life, I did miss one day. So, I made 4 of my 5 scheduled workouts. See what I mean? Progress. I wrote about the fun run I had on Tuesday. The day I missed was my gym workout on Wednesday. However, I wasn’t going to let that missed opportunity be the end of my week. I got out and ran again on Thursday and ran the same 4 miles around 30 seconds quicker! For the weekend, I decided to switch up my plan by going to the gym on Saturday and doing my long run on Sunday morning. By Friday morning, it was obvious to me that I needed the extra sleep on Saturday morning. The switch proved to be just what I needed.
With a really hot weekend, I knew my scheduled 15 mile run had to happen in the morning. So, on Sunday, I was up before the sun and started my 15 mile trek at just after 6:30am. The weather was perfect for the first 9 miles. As the sun rose, the temps rose with it. However, I’m proud to say that I finished the longest run of my life (15 miles)! My 15 miles took me through the streets of South Pasadena and Pasadena. I’ll write more about this run tomorrow. It was kind of crazy! I even got lost at one point (thank God for GPS!). However, I was able to finish 15 miles and then some.
Here’s how my week went…
Monday – Rest Day
Tuesday – Ran 4 miles
Wednesday – Unplanned Rest Day
Thursday – Ran 4 miles
Friday – Rest Day
Saturday – 30 minutes on the Elliptical Machine, abs, leg press, chin ups, dips
Sunday – Ran 15 miles, then walked 2.25 miles to get home
I’m looking forward to a week 6 that will end with the Run Forrest Run 5K with my wife in Long Beach as part of the Long Beach Marathon races!
Have you ever found yourself lost while doing a training run?
