Yesterday was the last first of a month I will see as a 30 something. On August 28th, I will turn 40 years old. How will I start my 40’s? Three days into my 40’s, I’ll be running the Disneyland 10K. On my 4th day as a 40-year-old, I’ll be running in the Disneyland Half Marathon. I will not be alone…
Now, I know that Joey Fatone is younger than I am. However, the above video was released this week and I thought I’d share (in case you didn’t know this before). With my 40th birthday so close, I’m finding myself doing a lot of self evaluation. Yesterday was a kind of downer of a day. It was the kind of day where thoughts of what I don’t like about my life dominated my thoughts. I’m lucky to have a great and awesome wife to help me through such days. She’s great at getting me laugh even when life seems miserable.
Speaking of my wife, we will be celebrating our 4th Wedding Anniversary next week! Also, on August 21st, we will celebrate her birthday as well. That’s right. My wife’s birthday is exactly one week before mine. We’re different ages. So, it’s not exactly one week…there are some years involved as well… you feel me.
Not only do I get to celebrate a wedding anniversary, my wife’s birthday, my birthday, and run at Disneyland this month, but one of my nieces is visiting us from Houston. So, we have lots of fun stuff planned. We’ll be visiting the California Science Center, going to see the Los Angeles Galaxy (our MLS team) play, and…California Adventure! I won’t get to join my fellow runners in hanging out at Disneyland Labor Day weekend after the runs because my wife and I will be going to at least DCA on August 14th. There might be some other things included there as well. Needless to say, August is going to be a busy one. By the way, she decided to come out a day or two after my nephew (her brother) returned from a visit over Spring Break. My guess is that my nephew had so much fun with his Auntie Brooke and Uncle Greg that she had to come out and do the same.
Oh, I almost forgot, there’s still training to do this month. This weekend, I’ll be running 4 miles on Saturday and 12.5 miles on Sunday. With the release of the Disneyland Half Marathon course this week, I decided it would be fun to plot a course that will cover as much of that course as I can in going 12.5 miles. Over the past few months, I’ve read various runners opinions on doing a training run over a course they are racing. Some seem to like doing it and others don’t. Since I’ve never done this, I thought I’d try it out. Of course, some of the DL Half course is in the parks. So, I won’t get to run there. However, I will cover all of the parts that are on the streets of Anaheim and finish in Downtown Disney. It’s an experiment. We’ll see how it goes.
I guess I’m feeling a bit like this about turning 40…
However, I think that my 40’s are going to start off with a bang. I’ve already got 1 5K, 2 10K’s, 2 Half Marathons, and my first full marathon planned for the first 5 months.
