I am an Overcomer

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m looking for some songs to add to my current playlist because the miles and duration of my long runs is growing and will only continue to grow as I make my way towards the Disneyland Half Marathon and the Walt Disney World Marathon. So, today I was really excited to find this gem of a song that I think needs to be added soon. It’s former American Idol finalist Mandisa’s latest single. Check it out…

I just LOVE the chorus…

You’re an overcomer

Stay in the fight ’til the final round

You’re not going under

‘Cause God is holding you right now

You might be down for a moment,

Feeling like it’s hopeless

That’s when he reminds you

That you’re an overcommer

Great words for us all to remember as we dream of going distances that just seem impossible. After a rough 9.5 miles on Sunday, I needed a song like this to come along and breathe new life into me. Hopefully, it will breathe new life into some of you as well. If not now, then maybe sometime in the future. We all have our moments in life where it feels like we’re going under. I love that music can have the power to bring us back when we think we’re going down.

  1. I haven’t heard this song yet but I got goosebumps reading the chorus and your description of what it means to you. Here’s what I love about blogs, sometimes you find a post that just speaks to you, like the author went to that most secret part of your soul and found a way to connect with you n a personal level. I did 5 miles yesterday (my longest distance so far) and when I finished I felt like I conquered the world, but during the workout it was a mighty struggle. Thanks for sharing this song, I have a feeling it will be making its way to my playlist too!! Have you blogged about other songs on your playlist?! I’m always on the hunt for good running music!

    1. Congrats on finishing 5 miles! It’s amazing to complete a distance that you’ve never completed before. I love that feeling! I can totally relate to the struggle to get there. I’m on that journey as well. It seems like this journey towards the DL Half Marathon and, eventually, the Walt Disney World Marathon will be filled with peaks and valleys. There are going to be runs where you feel like you could on on forever and ones where you feel like you’re about to die and everything in between. Consistency is hard. A lot of the songs on my play list have positive messages and ones that encourage me. I love it when, in the midst of a hard interval, I can hear some lyrics that encourage me to keep going. If you look back, I’ve highlighted a bunch of the songs on my list. Some of the songs that are really helpful now to me are Toby Mac songs. One is called “Get back Up Again” and “Eye on It.” I also previously highlighted another Mandisa song called “Dance, Dance, Dance.” If I remember correctly, I tagged the play list blogs as “play list” or “music.” Good luck on your running journey. With each new distance, you will continue to prove that you’re an overcommer.
