In keeping with the apparent trend of runDisney races, a 10K race has been added to the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at the Disneyland Resort. Here’s the official announcement from runDisney…
“Recently we’ve announced new race distances at the Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend, Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend and Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. With those races filling up and registration opening soon for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, many of you have wondered via Facebook, Twitter and email about the potential for a new Tinker Bell race distance.
Today, we are excited to have our friends in Pixie Hollow answer those questions for you!
With the new Tinker Bell 10K, more runners will be able to participate in the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, extending the experience and majesty of running through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park. The 10K distance also gives runners a challenging step between the 5K and Half Marathon.
Will you join us in January? If so, be sure to sign up for a reminder email to be notified when this race goes on sale on July 9 at 9:00 a.m. PT (12:00 p.m. ET)! We look forward to seeing you cross the finish line of the inaugural Tinker Bell 10K!”
So, like the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and Princess Half Marathon Weekend (the most recent events with sign ups), the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend will feature a 10K race. However, unlike the others, the 10K race does not include any special challenge. So, there will be no extra bling to run the 10K for with Tinker Bell. It will be interesting to see how fast the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend races fill up. The schedule for the races is very interesting for an event held at Disneyland. It will mark the first time that a Friday morning race happens. Here’s the schedule…
Friday, January 17, 2014 – Neverland 5K @ 5:45am
Saturday, January 18, 2014 – Tinker Bell 10K @ 6:00am
Sunday, January 19, 2014 – Tinker Bell Half Marathon @ 5:00am
I’ve been going back and forth on whether I would run the Tinker Bell Half Marathon to get my Coast to Coast medal. However, the budget for me and my wife is a little tight currently. So, I might have to sit this one out. However, if any of you are interested in any, or all, of these three races, I highly recommend them. The Neverland 5K in 2012 was my very first running event. The Tinker Bell Half Marathon this year was my very first half marathon. They were absolutely amazing run events!
Registration opens July 9th for this weekend.
So, are any of you going to be running Tink in 2014? Is the news of the latest 10K surprising anyone?
