Week 1 of my Disneyland Half Marathon training is in the books and what a fantastic week it was. I made all 5 workouts this week as scheduled! As this was week 1, I totally expected an easy week as far as motivation to make each and every workout happen. Boy was I wrong. Life happens even when you’re just starting out on a training plan that will last for 18 weeks. With the exception of Wednesday, each workout day had something that could have caused me to skip. However, I plowed through and saw some awesome results.
Monday – rest day
Tuesday – ran 3.10 miles
Wednesday – elliptical machine for 30 minutes, abs, pull ups, dips, leg press machine
Thursday – ran 3.10 miles
Friday – rest day
Saturday – ran 3.10 miles (it was my best time of the year and my 4th fastest 5K ever!)
Sunday – elliptical machine for 30 minutes, abs, pull ups, dips, leg press machine
As if making all of my workouts and running my 4th fastest 5K wasn’t enough to get excited about, I also lost 5.8lbs this week! I couldn’t imagine a better week as far as my workout and weight loss goals are concerned. All of this happened in spite of the following…
- I ate too much on Tuesday, making my run time slower than I would have liked.
- I didn’t sleep well on Wednesday night and thought that I’d have to walk the entire time I was scheduled to run on Thursday.
- On Saturday, I had to return a rental car, pick my car up from the body shop, do grocery shopping, and catch a free screening of “Iron Man 3” at the Walt Disney Studio Lot. Again, I felt tired before starting the Saturday run, but finished strong.
- Then, today there was lots of drama to deal with in the morning which zapped my spirits. However, I was determined to complete this week exactly as planned and had a great gym workout.
The lesson in all of this is to do your workouts even when you don’t feel like doing them. You just never know how good they will be until you actually try. It’s okay to try and fail. But, we always need to try.
